The Salicornia, also known as Sea Asparagus, Samphire or Sea Beans, is a plant that grows on or near sea shores around the world. It posses a high tolerance to salinity, being able to grow with the use of sea water. It is mainly used to flavor foods with a herbaceous-salty taste. Containing an excellent nutritional and mineral profile with a low sodium content, it is also delicious as a stand-alone food product.
It is widely used in gourmet gastronomy to decorate dishes and added to salads in its fresh and dry state.
